Our Intensive Outpatient Program sets clients up for long-term success.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) helps clients solidify coping strategies and other skills that help them maintain long-term recovery. The Ohana provides a unique IOP in that not only do clients receive one-on-one and group therapy sessions, but they also get to experience the wonder of The Big Island and build healthy peer relationships through adventure-filled excursions.

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), like the name suggests, is an intensive program that does not require a client to stay at the treatment center. Instead, clients receive treatment in the form of individual and group therapy three and a half hours a day up to five days a week, and are able to go home on their off time. With that said, many of our clients choose to live at our luxurious sober living center - though it is not required. Clients typically start an IOP as they transition back to daily life after completing an inpatient stay at a treatment facility. An IOP helps solidify everything clients learned during their inpatient stay while giving them more freedom and helping them transition to their daily life. The IOP at The Ohana helps clients strengthen their coping skills, teaches them additional interpersonal skills, and continues their deep dive into why they developed a substance use disorder in the first place. Additionally, our IOP includes adventure therapy where clients develop strong peer relationships and build their confidence through various trust-building exercises. treatment methods

Intensive Outpatient at The Ohana

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) includes various methods of individual therapy, psychodynamic group therapy, as well as relationship-building adventures on the island.
Individual Therapy We dive further into why a client developed a substance use disorder in the first place and practice various evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy.
Group Therapy With group therapy, our clients are able to connect to other individuals that are also learning to deepen and maintain their recovery. Through sharing, our clients continue to learn and grow their interpersonal skills.
Adventure Therapy Unique to The Ohana is our Adventure Therapy program. Here clients explore The Big Island while participating in trust-building relationships. As a result, clients increase their self-confidence and as well as confidence in others.

Who should consider an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An IOP is a great option for clients that do not require the level of structure of inpatient or partial hospitalization treatment, but do want a higher level of care than a weekly appointment with their therapist. Many people begin an IOP after successfully completing inpatient treatment in order to solidify the skills they learned during their residential stay. Others jump into an IOP from the beginning. At The Ohana, we complete a comprehensive evaluation of every client to place them in the appropriate level of care. Our IOP is offered from 8 am -12 pm M-F, making it a great option for clients who need to work in the afternoon and weekends.
