Elliott Michael Smith opened his first business at the age of 18 and by 21, had over 300 employees working at his agency. From a young age, he gained a lot of experience in leadership and management. Elliott produced over a dozen major motion pictures, but working in the industry did not come without its pitfalls. Having struggled with a substance use disorder on and off from the age of 17, Elliott found himself constantly retriggered. After various attempts at sobriety and treatment, Elliott attained long-term recovery after an intensive outpatient program helped him get to the root cause of his addiction.
Elliott sees a need and a unique way to reshape the addiction treatment industry by providing extended care and removing the hurdle of having to leave everything behind to attain it. At The Ohana, Elliott is accountable for creating an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the organization’s mission, vision, and values. His tasks include operational management, program development supervision, strategic planning, and more.
Peter Shorts Clinical Director, LCSW
Peter Shorts is a seasoned clinician who has practiced in the mental health and addiction recovery landscape for 25+ years. As an integrated practitioner, Peter utilizes cognitive and dialectical models, neuroscience, complex trauma, and spirituality to create an authentic healing approach. As a member of both the American Psychological Association and National Association of Social Workers, Peter continues to provide evidenced-based, trauma-informed, individual and family therapy. Peter brings a compassionate approach to The Ohana; striving to meet all clients where they are at.
Lee Jason Friend Holistic Services Director
Lee Jason Friend is a mindfulness practitioner and motivational speaker who has shared his message of sobriety through mindfulness and self-acceptance around the world. He is the author of New Thought, New Action, New Life which is a consciousness coaching tool that has been used by recovery and treatment centers to help clients have a better understanding of their connection to their spiritual selves. He is the creator of a life transforming workshop and The Ohana Tree, which has helped so many on their path of recovery and self-discovery. Lee’s gentle and spiritual approach to recovery helps those seeking personal transformation discover their connection to personal freedom and opportunities.
Chad K Campbell Holistic Practitioner
Chad Campbell is a lifelong surfer and Yoga lover from the Big Island of Hawaii. After a major surf injury, Yoga was the movement that helped him heal. Chad is certified by Julie Rader (aka Sensei), and Linda Baffa of Mukti Yoga and has been teaching Yoga since 2010. His focus is on fun, alignment-based flow. Some of his influences are Aaron Duncan, Julie Rader, Shane Dorian, Jack Kerouac, Tenzin Gyatsu, Jack Burton, Wu-Tang Clan, and the Ocean.
Brandon Orozco Resident Counselor & Adventure Leader
Brandon Orozco is a Marine Corps veteran and avid adventurer. From free diving the blue hole off the coast of Belize to hiking the highest points in Central America, he’s found that some of the most healing adventures have been right here on the Big Island of Hawaii. He is currently studying to become a certified alcohol and drug counselor. His goal is to help people find excitement in their life of sobriety.
Beth Freimuth DBT Curriculum Specialist
Beth Freimuth is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Trainer and has worked as a mental health professional for the last 18 years. She has developed DBT curriculum, provided mental health agency trainings, and has taught DBT skills to individuals struggling with dual diagnosis. Beth has trained extensively with Dr. Marsha Linehan, founder of DBT, Geshe Lhundup Sopa, world renowned Buddhist scholar and Sogyal Rinpoche, famed author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. She has been practicing mindfulness and meditation for the last 25 years. Beth empowers her clients to use DBT emotion regulation skills to manage real life difficulties. . She also utilizes DBT skills in her own life; through repeated practice she has decreased her own anxiety, anger, shame, and trauma. She believes there is hope for anyone to decrease emotional suffering, manage addictive and destructive impulsive behaviors, and increase experiences of peace and joy in their lives by using DBT .
Stephanie Barton Intake Specialist
Stephanie Barton has worked in the mental health and addiction field for many years. Stephanie began working with women at Open Arms Sober Living, a family-owned sober home in Palm Springs, CA. She worked closely with individual women and their families. Stephanie moved forward in her career and grew her passion for addiction recovery by helping different clinics and sober homes personalize their intake process; helping to make the transition into treatment as smooth as possible. Stephanie believes the intake process is a crucial part of a long-lasting recovery and life. Stephanie uses her skills and life experiences to guide clients and families through the first step towards a new life in recovery at The Ohana.
Sean Lydiard Vice President Of Business Development
Sean Lydiard is the former Vice President of Institutional Business Development at MBT Institutional, a division of MB Trading. Prior to joining MBT Institutional, Sean was a securities trader for the Electronic Trading Group in New York, and he began his finance career at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT). Sean received his BA in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Sean brings a strong financial background paired with a calm and stable nature, to the team at The Ohana.
